China's NEV Ownership Surges to 24.72 Million by Mid-2024

As of June 2024, China's new energy vehicle (NEV) ownership has reached 24.72 million, marking a significant rise from 20.41 million at the end of 2023. This growth reflects the expanding market for NEVs, which now make up 7.18% of the total 440 million vehicles in the country. Of these NEVs, 18.134 million are battery electric vehicles (BEVs), representing 73.35% of the NEV fleet.
 
China NEV Sales Surges in 2024, Chengdu Ranks top in Vehicles automobiles
In the first half of 2024, new NEV registrations hit 4,397,000, a 39.41% increase from the previous year, constituting 41.42% of all new vehicle registrations. China registered a total of 12.42 million new vehicles during this period.
 
The number of motor vehicle drivers in China, including motorcycle drivers, reached 532 million by the end of June, with 496 million being automobile drivers. The number of newly licensed drivers in the first half of 2024 rose by 17.36% to 13.97 million.
 
In terms of vehicle density, 96 Chinese cities have more than 1 million vehicles, with Chengdu, Beijing, and Chongqing surpassing 6 million each, while Shanghai, Suzhou, and Zhengzhou have over 5 million vehicles.
